Caught on camera: The moment a couple of newly-weds became newly-wets after freak wave knocks them into sea as they pose for pictures

Weddings are supposed to be memorable occasions.

And for one California couple, the moment they were swept off their feet by a freak wave as they posed for pictures on the beach, will no doubt stick with them forever.

It will certainly be something Kathleen Moore and Bryan Solari can watch again and again after the couple made a hilarious video of the event entitled: 'Our slightly exciting, completely unlucky and hilarious beach wedding'.

Very wet indeed: The wave engulfs the couple, drenching them. Mr Solari's wedding ring slipped off with the force of the water but amazingly he managed to find it again

For the wave wasn't the only disaster to befell their wedding day last October.

The plan was to have the wedding on School House Beach, Bodega Bay, followed by a reception overlooking the ocean and hopefully a romantic sunset - their ultimate dream ceremony.

The couple had even drawn up plans for how the marquees would attach to their motor-home parked on the cliff top.

The big day came and so did a violent storm that lashed the marquees with 2.78 inches of rain and 35mph winds.

Undeterred the couple ploughed on with the ceremony, but not before Mr Solari had locked the keys of their RV inside while the motor was still running.

An hour later he had managed to get back in just before the bride arrived. It was perhaps this incident that then led a nervous Mr Solari to put the ring on the wrong hand.

On to the reception which was warm and cosy with mugs of hot chocolate and heaters. There were a few leaks however and one rather bad one that saw the roof of the marquee cave in dumping a torrent of water on one guest as she ate.

To make matters worse another guest then hit her head while cleaning up and medics had to be called.

Two days later the now married couple changed into their wedding gear and headed down to the beach again to have their first dance on the sand and take some pictures in the sun.

Not quite a scorcher: The day before at the couple's actual wedding a violent storm lashed the marquees with rain and 35mph winds

But as they posed in the surf an enormous wave came rushing at them, literally knocking them off their feet and into the water.

Mr Solari told Fox News: 'I saw the wave coming but I didn't think it would be that big.'

The soggy couple then discovered Mr Solari's wedding ring had slipped off with the force of the water and his mobile phone - which had been in his pocket - was ruined.

Amazingly he managed to find the ring.

Unlucky streak: Mr Solari then puts the ring on Miss Moore's right hand instead of her left and after, at the reception, the roof of the marquee gives way dumping rain water on one guest while she eats

'We just kept thinking "what else could go wrong, what else could go wrong." It was just the joke of the weekend,' Mr Solari said.

The rest of the day went smoothly until they couldn't get the jacks up on their RV and found themselves stuck on top of a cliff without any phone signal.

They finally pulled away in the early hours.

Despite everything Mrs Solari remained upbeat about the event saying 'We still got our dream beach wedding,' before adding she would have married Mr Solari 'in a closet'.

The couple, who did not take a honeymoon straight away due to work commitments, said they would wait for their unlucky streak to run out before booking anything.

However the following day Mr Solari broke a mirror so it could now be a seven-year wait
