Caught on tape: Naked Florida man with AK-47 opens fire on SWAT team robot

A naked and allegedly suicidal Florida man opened fire on a SWAT team robot that entered his home after he threatened to shoot police - and the whole incident was filmed on the robot’s camera.

The man, armed with an AK-47, shot the robot at least four times, but eventually got dressed and surrendered to police.

Police sent the motorised robot into the man’s house to investigate after responding to a report that he was suicidal.

Lieutenant Bruce Barnett of Brevard County Sheriff’s Office told local station WESH that the man said: ‘If anyone tried to stop him that he would shoot them and that he had numerous weapons inside the house.’

Instead of risking lives, officers sent the $65,000 robot into the home in West Melbourne.

As the robot approached the front door the suspect’s dog was the only onlooker.

The video shows the robot searching each room of the house while officers watched from the safety of their command post.

As the robot slowly pushes open the man’s bedroom door, he comes out stark naked and tries to damage the robot with his bare hands.

Then he emerges again from the room with an AK-47 in his hand and starts shooting at the robot.

The robot was left with bullet holes, frayed wires and broken cables, but no police officers were hurt. ‘It saved a life,’ said Lt Barnett.

The man got dressed, surrendered to police and was charged with criminal mischief.

The robot will be out of a commission for a while and has been sent back to the manufacturer for repairs.
