Afghanistan: soldier killed in Helmand province | World news

 

A British soldier shot on patrol in Afghanistan's Helmand province has died of his injuries, the Ministry of Defence said. Private Gareth Bellingham of 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Staffords), was in Nahr-e Saraj district with the Afghan national army when he came under fire. His next of kin have been informed. Two other British soldiers killed in Afghanistan have been named as Craftsman Andrew Found, 27, from Whitby, North Yorkshire, of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and Corporal Lloyd Newell from the Parachute Regiment. A total of 374 UK troops have died in Afghanistan since 2001.
