Teenager jumps off Golden Gate Bridge suicide spot for dare and LIVES

  • The majority of folks do not survive this type of fall'

A teenager has survived a 220ft jump from the Golden Gate Bridge with nothing more than a few bruises.

The 17-year-old is thought to have been trying to impress classmates on a school trip when he climbed over the railings on the eastern pedestrian walkway and plunged into the icy San Francisco Bay.

But miraculously, the boy survived the jump at the world’s most popular suicide spot.

The teenager plunged 220ft into the choppy waters under the Golden Gate Bridge

Dare: The teenager plunged 220ft into the choppy waters under the Golden Gate Bridge after being urged on by classmates and lived to tell the tale

Around 1,400 people have leapt from the bridge since it opened in 1937, and 98 per cent of them have died. Only a handful have ever walked again.

If the bone-crushing force of the impact does not kill them, they usually drown in the strong currents and freezing temperatures.

But the unnamed teenager suffered only ‘bruising and tenderness’, according to representatives of Windsor High School in California’s Sonoma County.
