Former Destiny's Child member Farrah Franklin arrested for disorderly conduct

 

A former member of now disbanded female group Destiny's Child was arrested for disorderly conduct this weekend.

Farrah Franklin, 29, was taken into custody in the early hours of  Saturday morning in the Culver City area of Los Angeles, according to TMZ.

It has been reported that alcohol may have been involved in the incident.

The singer was released hours later on $100 bail.

Speaking out about the arrest today, Franklin claims she was 'manhandled' by the police and was the victim of racial profiling.

'Unfortunately, I am the latest victim on what seems to be a growing list of those who are racially profiled and mistreated by Culver City Police, she said. 

'I was manhandled by the arresting officers.'

She claims that there were no female officers on duty during her arrest and she was forced to removed some of her clothing.

There were no female officers on duty and I was required to take off my top and treated unfairly,' she said.

She also denied that she was arrested, claiming she was just detained.

'I am really upset about all that has taken place. I have never had a run in with the law before Saturday. On Saturday I was not arrested, I was detained,' she said.

In response, the Culver City Police Department confirmed that Franklin was in fact arrested for disorderly conduct, and told TMZ that they were responding to a complaint by a resident who phoned the department to inform that Franklin 'was disturbing the peace.'

After only being with Destiny's Child for just five months, Farrah was fired from  the all-female group by fellow members Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland in 2000.

The singer did not discover her dismissal until she saw an MTV news report.

Not long after the incident, Knowles explained in an interview that Farrah had missed three major dates.

She also stated that they felt Franklin no longer wanted to be in the group, which lead to her sacking.

Franklin was originally hired by the group in 1999 to be an extra in the music video for their hit song Bills, Bills, Bills.

At the time she was part of a failing group called Jane Doe, but had started to form a close alliance with Beyonce and Rowland.

In December 2000, Knowles's  father and group manager Matthew Knowles asked  Franklin to join Destiny's Child replacing other members LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett.

Franklin appeared in music videos for the hit songs Say My Name and Jumpin' Jumpin', and also contributed backing vocals to the remixes of  singles Independent Women Part I, Dot, and Dance with Me.

After leaving Destiny's Child, Franklin began a solo career and also tried her hand at acting.

She starred in a film called The Brewster Project, for which she won a Best Supporting Actress award from the Independent Film Awards.

Farrah is said to be currently shooting an 'untitled'  film, and recently revealed she had completed another album, which she is hoping to debut the album this year.

Following her departure, Destiny's Child went on to win several Grammy Awards and selling millions and millions of albums.

The group disbanded in 2006, but both Knowles and Rowlands have gone on to have extremely successful solo careers.
