Two British soldiers died in Afghanistan on Thursday, the Ministry of Defence has said.
One serviceman, from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, serving with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, was killed by a bomb on an operation in Helmand province, and the second, from the Parachute Regiment, was hit by small arms fire also in Helmand.
Their families have been informed.
The first soldier had been involved in a mission to detain an insurgent in the Gereshk valley area, within the northern Nahr-e Saraj district, at the time of his death.
He was killed as he tried to recover a vehicle which had been damaged by another blast.
Lieutenant Colonel Tim Purbrick, spokesman for Task Force Helmand, said: "It is with great sadness that I have to inform you of the death of a soldier from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, serving with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in the Adinza'i area in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province.
"During an operation to detain an insurgent, the soldier was working to recover a vehicle which had been damaged in an explosion when he was fatally wounded by an explosive device.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."
The incidents bring the total number of UK military personnel who have died since operations in Afghanistan began in 2001 to 373.
