A judge, a lawyer and a police official were among 10 people arrested yesterday in a probe that Milan prosecutors said revealed the spread of the ’Ndrangheta crime empire across Italian society.
They said the investigation was conducted by anti-mafia authorities in Milan and Reggio Calabria, the southern region where the mob is rooted.
The charges ranged from associating with the mafia to using front-men on property documents — commonly used in money-laundering.
A top tax police official was arrested on suspicion of corruption.
One of those arrested was Giuseppe Giglio, a judge in the city of Reggio Calabria accused of corruption, revealing office secrets and aiding and abetting organised crime.
A major investigation last year led to the arrest of 300 people and showed that the ’Ndrangheta had infiltrated itself into politics and finance in Milan.
